Detailed Itinerary for Chandigarh – Manali – Leh (Ladakh) 9N-10D

Chandigarh (1,148 ft) – Manali (6,726 ft) – Keylong (10,100 ft) – Sarchu (14,070 ft) – Leh (11,562 ft) – Nubra Valley (10,000 ft) – Tso Pangong (14,270 ft) – Leh

 

Day 01: Chandigarh – Manali (6,726 ft)

In the morning, upon arrival at Chandigarh Airport/Railway Station you will be welcomed by Unplugged Life’s representative and shall be driven to the beauteous town of Manali ie 310 kms away (10:00 hrs). Upon arrival, check-in at the hotel for the night.

Manali – Leh Highway with 10 minutes halts at all the major engrossing locations on this stretch –

Manali (6,726 ft) – Rohtang Pass (13,050 ft) – Chenab River – Koksar – Keylong (10,100 ft)

Suraj Tal (16,020 ft) – Bara-lacha La Pass (16,040 ft) – Sarchu (14,070 ft) – Nakee La Pass (15,547 ft) – Lachulung La Pass (16,616 ft) – Pang (15,280 ft) – Morey Plains (15,748 ft) – Tanglang La Pass (17,480 ft) – Karu – Leh (11,562 ft)

Day 02: Manali – Keylong (10,100 ft)

After breakfast, check-out and drive towards Keylong, the administrative headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Among the white and brown mountain in the region Keylong stands out as oasis of greenery in the district. Situated at a height of 10,100 ft. above sea level, Keylong is the most populated place in Lahaul region.

Day 03: Keylong – Sarchu (14,070 ft)

Post breakfast proceed towards Sarchu which is at an altitude of 14,070 ft. Sarchu is a major halt point with tented accommodation in the Himalayas on the Leh – Manali Highway, on the boundary between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh (Jammu and Kashmir) in India. Upon arrival, check-in at the pre-arranged camp, remaining of the evening at leisure.

Day 04: Sarchu – Leh (11,562 ft)

After an early breakfast drive towards Leh. The roads will go pass 3 of the high mountain passes on this route; Nakee La Pass (15,547 ft), Lachulung La Pass (16,616 ft) & Tanglang La Pass (17,480 ft) to finally arrive in Leh, a high-desert city in the Himalayas. Leh, the capital of Ladakh, at one time was a major stop on the Asian “Silk Route”. Upon arrival, check-in at the guest house for the night.

Day 05: Leh Sightseeing

Fall in for a jaunt of exploration with beautiful stopovers like: Leh Palace – Shanti Stupa – Hall of Fame – Gurudwara Sri Pathar Sahib & Sangam (Confluence of Zanskar and Indus River). Later drive down to Leh.

Day 06: Leh – Khardung La (18,380 ft) – Nubra Valley (Diskit – Hunder)

After an early breakfast, check-out & drive to Nubra Valley, the road to the Nubra Valley goes through the highest motor-able pass in the world, Khardung La Pass (18,380 ft). The Pass is almost permanently covered in fog and snow. On arrival you first visit Esna monastery in Diskit that is over 250 years old. This is the oldest monastery in Nubra Valley. Later visit the sand dunes at Hunder, you can also enjoy a camel ride here (the camel ride is on direct payment basis). Later check-in at the camp & spend the night stargazing.

Day 07: Nubra Valley (Hunder – Sumur) – Khardung La – Leh

After breakfast, check-out and drive to visit Sumur, a picturesque village around 42 km’s from Hunder on the other side of the valley. The village of Sumur is famous and also an important stop since the holy monastery named Samstem Ling Gompa is located close to the village. Later drive down to Leh. Upon arrival, check-in at the guest house, remaining of the evening at leisure.

Day 08: Leh – Shey Palace – Thiksey Monastery – Chang La (17,590ft) – Tso Pangong

After an early breakfast, check-out and drive towards Pangong Lake via the Chang-la pass, 3rd highest motor-able pass in the world (17,370 ft). On the way, first stop at Shey Palace, the palace, mostly in ruins now was built first in 1655. Later visit Thiksey Monastery and continue the journey to Tso Pangong. Thiksey monastery is located at an altitude of 11,800 ft in the Indus Valley. Upon arrival, check-in at the resort/camp and spend rest of the evening sightseeing around the lake.

Day 09: Tso Pangong – Chang La – Rancho School – Leh

Post breakfast, visit the lake and after spending some time drive back to Leh. On the way back visit Rancho School (The school in the movie 3 Idiots). Upon arrival at Leh, check-in at the guest house. This is your last evening in Leh, remaining of the evening at leisure for you to explore the beauty of Leh on your own.

Day 10: Depart Leh: Transfer to Airport

In the morning, transfer to the airport to board the flight to your onward destination.
